UPDATE ON THE PRICE OF CO 2 EMISSIONS

Our readers may remember that in the October Newsletter (see) we predicted that the price of CO2 emissions in Europe would stabilize in the short-medium term above € 30 per ton, becoming a very considerable annual expense for those industries that they will not adopt measures in time to reduce emissions.

This prediction has not taken long to come true. In fact, the price has already been fluctuating between 30 and 35 euros since it passed the barrier of € 30 at the beginning of December:

Some voices predict that the price could go above € 50 in the very near future, but in any case it is clear that we find ourselves in a paradigm shift.

CO2 emissions can be reduced either through greater production efficiency, which is interesting but leaves little room for action, or through changes in the fuels used, where emissions can be reduced by up to 100%.

At BERALMAR we have different solutions for the consumption of neutral fuels, both for the drying and cooking processes, such as biomass, synthesis gas or biogas.

MODERNIZATION OF AUTOMATIC MANAGEMENT EQUIPMENT IN PROCERAN (SPAIN)

BERALMAR is carrying out an intervention in PROCERAN brick plant in Aguilar de la Frontera (Córdoba, Spain) of GRUPO DÍAZ REDONDO, with the aim of implementing a new management system for the drying process, as well as for the setting line.

Specifically, in the case of the dryer, BERALMAR's MICROSEC Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) is being implemented, which in this case will have to migrate and integrate the programming of the existing drying tunnels and pre-drying tunnel, developed in the past by two different engineering firms.

The new control system will also manage the biomass heat generation equipment installed in 2019 by BERALMAR.

The intervention of the BERALMAR process is completed with a new PLC and programming of the stacking line.

We take this opportunity to thank the renewed confidence of the PROCERAN management in BERALMAR.

NEW BIOMASS HEAT GENERATORS TO MOROCCO

It is known that BERALMAR has a long experience in the manufacture of equipment for the generation of heat from solid fuels, for decades. However, in recent times there has been an increase in the demand for this equipment, either to reduce CO2 emissions in some cases, or to consume a cheaper fuel.

This is the case of the MARO BRIQ brick plant in Nador (Morocco), which has commissioned 2 heat generation sets each consisting of a combustion chamber and a heat exchanger with a production of 2,000,000 kcal/h (2,326 KWh) , which will consume biomass to provide hot, clean air to the dryer.

The biomass in this case will be the olive pomace, a very available and affordable product in Morocco.

Although Morocco does not have the objectives of reducing CO2 emissions as is the case of the European Union, MARO BRIQ will also reduce these emissions since the new biomass generators will replace the consumption of up to 10 tons of heavy oil per day.
